Why This Matters
Electronic music creates real money every day: clubs and festivals pay licence fees, uses are reported, royalties move through existing systems. The problem is not that no money is generated — it is that a significant part of it never reaches the artists whose tracks actually shape these spaces.
In practice, a lot of this money follows existing structures and catalogues. Where artists do not participate in those structures — because there is no publishing setup, no registrations, no ongoing administration — they are barely present in the data that drives distributions. Value is created with their music, but they only touch a part of the royalties that circulate around it.
Electronic music makes this especially visible: DJ sets, live hybrids, self-releases, collaborations, independent labels, international touring. Music is played and careers grow in ways that do not always line up neatly with how traditional publishing systems were designed. If no one is aligning that reality with the publishing side, the gap simply stays there.
kollekt:r exists to work on that gap. The aim is to support artists in electronic music and club culture by putting publishing structures in place that match their practice: setup, administration and royalty accounting that take the way this music actually moves through clubs, line-ups and releases seriously.
This is not about turning artists into administrators or pretending that one publisher can fix an entire system. It is about making sure that there is at least one place where the artistic reality and the publishing reality are brought closer together — so that money which is already being generated has a better chance of reaching the artists it is actually based on.
